Sadu House es una organización creada con la intención de preservar, documentar y promocionar uno de los pocos trabajos manual que se hacían en Kuwait antes de encontrar el petroleo. Un grupo de mujeres se dió cuenta de que ya no se tejían mantas y demás como antiguamente dejando paso a las nuevas tecnologías con lo que la única tradición reconocida de las mujeres de Kuwait estaba desapareciendo.
Al Sadu House esta en la Gulf Road, al lado de la nueva Biblioteca Nacional (aun sin libros) en una antigua casa familiar restaurada que también ofrece una visión de como eran las casas de entonces. Una clásica construcción de dos alturas con dormitorios o salones a los lados y patio en medio, de ventanas pequeñas y ancohs uros apra evitar los cambios de temperatura del desierto.
Pasearse por Sadu House significa imaginar como vivían los pudientes hace mas de 50 años y de paso recoger un museo lleno de tradiciones. No es mi estilo de tapices pero es totalmente recomendable.
El horario de apertura es de sábado a jueves de 8.00 a 13.00 y de 16.00 a 20.00 la entrada es gratuita. Si queréis aprovechar la visita el edificio contiguo es el Museo Nacional de Kuwait.

Al Sadu Society is dedicated to preserving, documenting and promoting the rich and diverse textile heritage of the Kuwaiti Bedouin, from the nomadic weaving of the desert through to the urban weaving of the town. We celebrate the values of productivity and creativity of the nation’s past generation, weaving together a cultural identity for both present and future generations.
Begun in 1978, as a private initiative, by a group of concerned Kuwaitis who wished to preserve a fast disappearing, yet intrinsic, cultural identity, the Al Sadu Project was founded.
In 1991, soon after the liberation of Kuwait, the Sadu Project was transformed into Al Sadu Weaving Co-operative Society. This is a venture owned and run by the weavers and artisans themselves, with all profits going to these, the shareholders. The Society is managed by members of a board of shareholders and an advisory committee headed by the Patron, honorary president Sheikha Altaf Al-Sabah.
