Ballet: From Fantasy to Freedom

Hace unos años que conozco a Carmen Shammas (ver aquí entrevista) , en concreto desde la fiesta del 12 de octubre de 2010 en el Sheratton y desde el primer momento me sorprendió como tras una fachada de elegancia, tranquilidad y paz que ella transmite a todos los que la conocemos hay una señora inquieta y llena de ideas. Al poco de conocerla fui a ver un ballet de la que ella era la diseñadora de vestuario (ver post aquí) y para ser una academia privada de ballet en Kuwait me sorprendió el bonito resultado tanto en el baile como en el vestuario y atrezzo. Tener en cuenta que aquí hay muchas limitaciones a la hora de vestir a las bailarinas ya que muchas usan su hiyab y otras no quieren ser irrespetuosas y prefieren cubrir su cuerpo con mallas que disimulen sus curvas.

Este año el ballet de Mrs. Hicks presenta de nuevo su espectáculo abierto a quienes quieran ir a verlo y aunque Carmen no ha hecho todo el vestuario porque ha estado bien ocupada este año haciendo un master en diseño, utilizan parte de su trabajo de otros años. Yo os invito a ir y verlo ya que es una nueva oportunidad de rodearte de arte y cultura.

Hoss Intropia is also in Kuwait (In The Avenues Mall) rather more expensive than in Spain but the truth is that it's good to go to the store and see the richness of the fabrics and skill in designing clothes. I have a dress that once landed in Bilbao I'll see if I can still find it and buy it. And we are also fortunate to have Adolfo Dominguez (also in The Avenues Mall) the store is huge and has the entire collection including U the young brand. Something I realy miss is a good brand of Spanish Shoes with good prices. We are lucky to have Pretty Ballerinas and from time to time Casta...

No dejéis de comprar una de sus piezas de cerámica pintadas por mujeres Palestinas en exclusión, refugiadas y con vidas muy muy difíciles. Las aceitunas, los dulces y las galletas saladas eran mis favoritas. This was one of my favourite plans while living in Kuwait. This association helps women in social exclusion living in as refugees in Lebanon, don´t miss the exhibition and please buy one of the fabric pieces or handpainted pottery. And try their olives or biscuits... love them.
