Shurooq Amin is back

 It’s a Mad World
Shurooq Amin
Curated by: Martina Corgnati
In collaboration with Ayyam Gallery
Opening reception: Saturday, 9/4/2016
Time: 7:00 – 9:00pm
Exhibition dates: 10/4/2016 – 21/5/2016
It has been 4 years since the shutdown of Shurooq Amin’s last show in Kuwait and the subsequent censorship of her paintings. Since then, she has only exhibited her work abroad.  She has been fortunate to have the representation and backing of Ayyam Gallery, who believed in her,  gave her a platform to raise her voice uncensored, and invited her to show her work in Dubai and London, and now Contemporary Art Platform - Kuwait have invited her to exhibit in Kuwait again, to show her newest work in an exhibition titled ‘It’s a Mad World’ which opens 9th of April 2016 at 7:00pm, in collaboration with Shurooq Amin’s representative gallery Ayyam. It’s a Mad World will be curated by Martina Corgnati with whom Shurooq Amin spent time at the 56th Venice Biennale where Corgnati curated the pavilion Shurooq Amin was part of: Contemporary Practices Pavilion.

It is only fitting that the original title for this show – Apocalypso Now – should be changed to It's a Mad World, to arrive full circle from her last show in Kuwait, It's a Man's World.  As simple as the title is, as meaningful as it is for Shurooq Amin, since the pattern (semantically, syntactically, and phonetically) – and full circle – from It’s a Man’s World to It’s a Mad World is explicit.

It's a Mad World consists of 18 artworks and an installation.

Spanish fashion in Kuwait | Moda Española en Kuwait II parte

As we discussed in previous post, the Spanish fashion has a big representation here. Once again, the Inditex group is in all world and markets but "Not only of Zara can the human being dress", right? Companies such as Condor have been installed in this country for a long time and that for moms like me who like the quality and variety of brand socks is helpful (in Baroue find them). Hoss Intropia is also in Kuwait (In The Avenues Mall) rather more expensive than in Spain but the truth is that it's good to go to the store and see the richness of the fabrics and skill in designing clothes. I have a dress that once landed in Bilbao I'll see if I can still find it and buy it.  And we are also fortunate to have Adolfo Dominguez (also in The Avenues Mall) the store is huge and has the entire collection including U the young brand. Something I realy miss is a good brand of Spanish Shoes with good prices. We are lucky to have  Pretty Ballerinas and from time to time Casta...

Cologne made in Kuwait, throughs me back to good memories of my grand Father. It´s quite cheap, 1.650 kd and you can get it from the coop, Shamiya. I also think its a good souvenir from Kuwait or even a gift for birthdays or Christmas.

Palestinian Cultural Center Exhibition

This was one of my favourite plans while living in Kuwait. This association helps women in social exclusion living in as refugees in Lebanon, don´t miss the exhibition and please buy one of the fabric pieces or handpainted pottery. And try their olives or biscuits... love them.
